Parent and Child Intimacy – Introduction

Spread the love

Intimate bonding between an individual parent and child is a vital part of early development. It’s rare that these moments are captured on film. However, photographer Christopher Ryan’s “Parent and Child Intimacy” series, we see these glimpses of joyful, fun moments in a spirit of unity between a parent and child.

Originally my concept was to shoot very small children.  However, a couple of parents with older children (9 and 12 as shown below) very much wanted to participate, so we have made this work!

If the child is older and can follow some acting instructions, it is fun to shoot a variety of moods.  In this example below, the boy “Sumo” was acting as if he had just gotten in trouble and his mom had taken his phone away.

NOTE: This is a voluntary project.  As such, there is no fee paid to the model.  There is no charge for the session either.  The parent must sign a model release for themselves as well as a second one for the minor child.  I require a copy of the parents ID for my records.  If both parents come, I will be glad to shoot a few shots as a family.  I will provide a limited number of professionally edited photos in exchange for the time for this session.  Usually this will be 5 to 10 total images.  I DO NOT in any case send out every single image from the session.

I understand that many people want to post on Instagram, so I will provide at least one image perfectly suited (square image) for this purpose as well as one or two in vertical format.  Most will be horizontal as shown on this page.
