Prior to leaving the jungle, we went through this town called Belen.
It is a floating village actually. As the water levels go down,
the people prop logs and dead trees up under their houses so they
sit on land part of the year.
It was really amazing to me that the river served as their water
supply, laundry room, restroom, and play area all in one. They had
little shacks about 2' X 2' at the end of tiny piers they used as
outhouses. The stuff fell through into the water where children
would be playing in the water. A few feet away a sister may be doing
laundry, or a father fishing. But yet everyone seemed so happy.
Look closely at these pics.
